It is performed by an investigator who will talk to people who know you and your habits. They'll check your credit history and determine if you meet your obligations.


Old friends, and enemies, will be contacted as to your younger years, drug or alcohol usage, etc.


He'll talk to your neighbors, friends, bankers, teachers, preachers, and he'll ask each of them to give him the names of 5 people who know you well... he'll then contact those 5 people and ask them about you... and then he'll ask THEM to tell him 5 people who you you well.....





So, if you feel the need to have a 'pre background' check done before the authorities, you already know you have some things in your background that are negative and will be held against you.
