How do I get through my day when all I do is clean toilets? Anyone else have a job like this? What to do?

I just left school for a year so I can work to afford to go back one day and pay off my bills and debt now. Not having a car, I was restricted in my job search to things within walking distance or on our limited public transportation. I found a job slightly above minimum wage with a service contractor for a local mall. I was not told when I was hired what I would be doing since assignments are given at the mall but I took it since it was the only thing paying over minimum wage. My assignment ends up being responsible for cleaning all the bathrooms. All I do is go to each bathroom and clean all them and when I鈥檓 done I just start all over. I spend almost my entire 10 hour shift in the bathroom and I am going nuts. Any help? How do I keep my sanity cleaning toilets all day long? It is so gross and embarrassing. Anyone have this job?? Should I keep it? HELP

look for a new job or see if you can transfer if you hate it that much
Reply:Look at it this way- you are sitting in a pretty good position as far as job seeking goes (and I totally understand that your current job has to be temporary- you can't do this for too much longer before you just get fed up and quit). The reason I think you're in a good position is because you have the luxury of having a job while looking for another. That changes your desperation level greatly!

On your next day off, I suggest you set out on foot and walk into (or at least scope out and write down names) every single business within walking distance. Call later and ask to what address you can send a resume, as well as whom you should address it to.

Another idea is to hold off on paying down your debt and save your paychecks up for a car- it doesn't have to be super fancy. Once you can drive, it will open up your options a lot and you can then get a better paying job and continue on with your financial goals.

Good luck!
Reply:Mind over matter! I understand your job is the pits, but apply your mind towards the goal. I have a crap second job and I put my music in my ears and send my mind somewhere else and time myself that by the end of chosen cd, I must be at a certain point, this way the music moves the time along. Either find a way to not let it in, and stay in denial or simply find another job. All the best.
Reply:If you're not happy with your job - make a change! Only you can decide to do that!

I work from home, and I don't have to do shows, sell products, or take and deliver orders! I can do everything from the telephone or computer, too, so I am truly home!It is much better than some of the other things I have tried!

Also, the company I work for has gotten a Hall of Fame award from the Better Business Bureau! The team I am with gives me free training and a free website as well!

Come to my website and fill out an interest form, and I will call you and get you all the info. With any real business, you can't get all the info on a message board post, and there is no obligation to listen to the details. Everything is fully refundable too! That makes it risk-free!

Reply:Now you know "WHY" you have to go back to school!!!!!!!!!
Reply:don't ever be embarassed by your job. a lot of other people do what you're doing. if you're truly bothered enough by what other people (who don't even know you) might think of you when they see you cleaning the bathrooms, then quit and try to find another job. if you are allowed to, definitely bring an mp3 player or something and just listen to that ALL day. i know it'd make my day go by faster, and you can just listen and sing along in your head and ignore the fact that you dislike your job.
Reply:Kudos to you for keepng it as long as you have-- what an honorable person you are. But enough is enough, sounds like your miserable and I would be too.
Reply:I used to clean houses as a small business a few years back. It is hard work, I'll give you that.

I just finally got burnt out on it. The only thing I can suggest is maybe wear an ipod, so at least you can hear good music while you clean. If that is not an option and you are truly fed up...the only thing I can suggest is to look for a different line of work.

Don't be embarrassed though. You are working for a living and there is no shame in that.

Lots of luck to you.
Reply:Yes, you keep this job because you need the money. Think of it this way: At least no one is over your shoulders why you're scrubbing the toilets. As for embarrassing, at least you're working at something, and that by no means should be an embarrassment. It's also okay to want to better yourself, and that will happen when you get out of debt and can get a better job. Just continue to be humble doing what you're doing until something better comes along. Keep those toilets sparkling!
