I have a job where I clean a business office twice a month. Every month I make $80. I got a 1090 because...?

I make more than $500 a year. This is the only place I clean. Is this job worth keeping? How much will they take out in taxes? Yes this is my first full year of this job. I live in Indiana if that makes any difference.

I can't tell you if this job is worth keeping. Yes you will need to file this on your taxes on a schedule C and you may have to pay self employment taxes (15.3% - then half of the self employment tax you pay is a deduction on your return). But you need to remember that you can deduct expenses for this job. Any supplies you use, any equipment you purchase, etc. And if you drive from one place of employment to the cleaning place you can deduct mileage. Hope this helps.
Reply:Any income over

$600.00 is taxable.
Reply:Be sure to deduct all your expense, to even out against the taxes you spend, any cleaning supplies you purchase, special clothing you need to wear to work, all that stuff.

What you will owe depends on what you made, and how many deductions you have, you should try to take a % out every week or month and set it aside for taxes.
Reply:Because you earned taxable income. If you would rather have no money than some money your job is worth keeping.
Reply:For Federal purposes, a 1099 means you are an independent contractor and are responsible for paying your own taxes. This should be done on a quarterly basis so you don't have such a big nut at tax time. Expect to pay at least 1/3 in taxes. If what is owe is over a certain amount, you may also be charged a penalty for under-estimating your taxes and not paying quarterly. I don't know anything about Indiana state tax.
