Cleaning the house as my job for the summer?

Alright so my parents are allowing me to clean our house during the summer as my job since I can't drive around to a job. The only thing we can't decide is how much I should get paid. We had a house cleaner before that 60-70 dollars and I'm thinking I should get close to that amount. I'm 16 years old and our house is a single story with over 3,000 sq feet. Any ideas how much I should get paid?

Hey now, if your parents paid a house cleaner and they are now offering it to you then by all means sure you should get paid a fair amount - I would say if you do everything she did then the same pay should apply - but if I were you, you would look better in your parents eyes if you say 50$ but do an even better job then she ever did - they will see that and up your pay without you asking or throw in a nice bonus. Plus this is great experience for you for when you get grown and have your own place. Remember to do the regular things each week but at least once a week do something big, like behind the fridge, or the inside of the oven, or the baseboards...tackling those big jobs one at a time really shows!
Reply:I believe the going rate is CT is about $15.00 an hour. That's with an initial deep cleaning of about 8 hours of straight work to start. After that it's maintaining and that's about 2 to 3 hours a visit twice a week. That's with home owner suppling all cleaning materials.
Reply:u shuld do that without asking money from ur parents..
Reply:Meghan is right about the professional having travel expenses. If in your parents' opinion, you do a job equal to the quality of the professional, you could probably ask for $50. If you're not doing the same amount or quality of work, that would reduce the price.
Reply:You shouldn't make what you used to pay someone else. They had time and travel expenses which you will not have. She was also a profesional, and you are not. I don't think that $45-50 is unreasonable, but it also depends on the amount of work you will be doing. What about getting some babysitting jobs or mowing neighbors lawns to make money as well?
Reply:Like 50 dollars a week? Or a day? Cause I wouldn't clean a 3000 square foot house for 50 dollars a week EVER. You could spend 50 dollars a week on cleaning products alone for a house that big. Makes no sense. But if we're talking daily rate, it should be somewhere between 100-175 a week. For a house that big that is.
