How do you tell a friend to quit his job cleaning pools and get a real job?

He is 27 years old and has done this for the past 4 or 5 years. He doesn't make anymore money now than he did before. His reason for not quitting is because he thinks the guy he works with is going to "give him the business". I told him it's ridiculous because that is money he could make selling it to someone. He is obviously naive. He is a good labor worker / good with his hands where should I suggest he start? He probably needs to make $10+ an hour to afford living where he does currently.. at home! J/K.
How do you tell a friend to quit his job cleaning pools and get a real job?
It's one thing to be working for peanuts for the promise of a huge score, but this clearly isn't it. He needs to get a real job or at the very least come up with a much better game plan. Also, if this guy has never conveyed in words or a contract that the business will indeed be his, he is setting himself up for a big fall.
Reply:Why is this any of your business. If this is what your friend wants to do with his life, then that is his decision!!!! Not yours. If you think it's lame, fine, you think it's lame. But stop hassling the guy just because he is not be very ambitious! If that is what he wants, let him have it. Either way he'll be responsible for his life. NOT YOU! LAY OFF!
Reply:well has long has he is happy i dont think you should be worrying about it when he starts wanting money of you then you can say something but till then its his choice
Reply:A job is a job at least he has one, if thats what he loves to do then who are you to judge?
Reply:Is it really your place tto tell him to change his job? He's a grown @ss man. If he wants to clean out filters for the rest of his life... who are you to stop him?
Reply:Have you ever thought that maybe your friend enjoys his job? He's been on the job for a while, so he pretty much knows what he's doing. Maybe he likes his schedule, or the stress free life style. I'm sure when he is off duty he's not worrying about Mrs. Wilson's pool. There's a lot to be said for a job that you don't have to think about when you are not "on the job". Maybe he could ask his boss for a raise, but if he is truly happy then you shouldn't push.
Reply:The way to tell a friend to quit his job and get a real job, is if you have a job lined up for him. It's hard to tell someone to quit ajob whether its cleaning pools or a toilet, if you yourself don't have another job lined up for the person. If not let him continue doing what he is doing at least he is working
