There is no such thing as a 10 year rule in every state of the country. Every state is different on how a person can get his record expunged. Usually the charges have to be dismissed, set aside, pardoned, etc. before they can be taken off your record. The person who can help you needs to know what state you are in, the exact charges, and the disposition of the charges before it can be assessed whether or not you can get your record expunged.
Reply:You have to stay clean for 10 years, then you can get your lawyer to file for an "expungement" in court where they will erase your past. Until your 10 years are up, you'll have to deal with the consequences.
